  • GERMAN LAWMAKER JOANA COTAR PUSHES FOR BITCOIN TO BECOME LEGAL TENDER

Berlin, Germany – In a move that could have far-reaching implications for the cryptocurrency landscape, German lawmaker Joana Cotar is leading an initiative to establish Bitcoin (BTC) as a legal tender in the country.

According to reports, Cotar, a member of the Bundestag, has expressed her intention to start a “preliminary review” to build a legal framework that would recognize BTC as a legal currency in Germany.

She stressed the need for legal certainty for businesses and individuals alike, while also addressing potential risks such as money laundering, tax evasion, and other illegal activities related to BTC.

As part of her campaign to raise awareness and educate her colleagues in parliament about the benefits of Bitcoin, Cotar has launched a “Bitcoin in the Bundestag” campaign.

Her key focus includes promoting the libertarian aspects of BTC, such as privacy protection, security standards, and preventing excessive regulation.

Cotar has expressed particular interest in Bitcoin, not other cryptocurrencies.

She revealed plans to establish an official Bundestag committee to explore the technological differences between Bitcoin and other digital assets.

Cotar, who is known for her criticisms of the European Central Bank’s digital currency plans, has added her voice to the ongoing debate about digital currencies in Europe.

Cotar’s push for BTC to be recognized as legal tender in Germany comes amid a global debate about the role of cryptocurrency in mainstream finance.

Her particular interest in BTC over other cryptocurrencies is in line with the view of many supporters who see Bitcoin as the most promising digital asset.
